As more people try to build a website online, many are left wondering whether or not it is worth it to deal with domain registration and hosting.

With more free hosting websites popping up every day, they can seem like the perfect no-cost solution.

Unfortunately, there are a number of advantages to going through with the process of domain registration and hosting that most people do not consider.  Here is a quick look at what some of those advantages are.

1.    Stability

Once you have completed your domain registration and hosting is acquired, you have complete control over your website.

Since the domain name is yours, you can do anything that you want with it.  You could keep the same domain name forever if you want to.

This level of stability simply doesn’t exist with free website hosting companies.  Many of them will not provide you with a domain name of your name.  This means that if they decide to take down your website, there is nothing that you can do about it.

With your own hosting and domain, this will never be a problem.

2.    No Wasted Efforts

If you have spent even a few months building up traffic for your website, you wouldn’t want those efforts wasted.

As long as you own your domain, the traffic that you build will always be able to find your website.

On the other hand, if you do not have your own domain name, you could have your website shut down for nearly any reason.  If this happens, you will have wasted all of the time and effort that you spent building up traffic because your website no longer exists.

3.    Total Control

As long as you have completed your domain registration, hosting setup and everything is ready to go, you are in total control of your website.

You decide what it looks like, how or if you want to monetize it, where your advertisements will be located, and the colors of your site.  You have complete control over everything.

If you using a free hosting service, and do not have your own domain name, your options will be severely limited.

Moreover, most of these services will place profitable ads of their own on your website.  This pulls your readers attention away from what you are providing, and points them towards what the free hosting service wants them to focus on.

You will also normally be limited to a certain number of templates that will decide how your website looks.
